Conversion Tracking Setup

Conversion tracking tells your advertising and analytics accounts when a booking or lead happens in Cooledge, so you can see which ads, campaigns and channels actually bring you work. Cooledge fires the events for you, so once your IDs are saved there is nothing else to wire up.

You set it up in Settings → Conversion Tracking.

The Conversion Tracking settings page in Cooledge

What Cooledge sends

  • Bookings and leads from your online booking pages, landing pages, embedded widgets and chat widget fire a conversion the moment they are captured.
  • Lower funnel events fire later, when a lead becomes a quote or job and when it is won.
  • Google events go through the Google tag in the browser. Meta events are sent both from the browser (Pixel) and from our servers (Conversions API), so they still arrive even when a browser blocks scripts.

Note: You only need the accounts you actually use. Fill in Google Analytics, Google Ads, Meta or any combination. Cooledge only fires events for the IDs you provide.

Turn on conversion tracking

  1. Go to Settings → Conversion Tracking.
  2. Paste at least one ID (see the sections below).
  3. Make sure Conversion tracking enabled is on. Cooledge turns it on automatically the first time you add an ID.
  4. Click Save.

You can switch Conversion tracking enabled off at any time to pause everything without deleting your IDs.

Google Analytics (GA4)

Cooledge needs your Measurement ID. It looks like G-XXXXXXXXXX.

  1. Open Google Analytics and select your property.
  2. Click Admin (the gear icon at the bottom left).
  3. Under Data collection and modification, click Data streams.
  4. Click your Web stream.
  5. Copy the Measurement ID shown at the top right. It starts with G-.
  6. Paste it into the Measurement ID field in Cooledge and save.

Note: You need Editor access or above on the Analytics property to see the Measurement ID.

Google Ads

Cooledge needs two values from a conversion action, your Conversion ID and Conversion label.

  1. Open Google Ads.

  2. Click Goals → Conversions → Summary.

  3. Click + New conversion action, choose Website, and finish creating the action (for example "Booking" or "Lead").

  4. On the conversion action open the tag setup and choose the Use Google tag option.

  5. Find the event snippet. It contains a line like this:

    'send_to': 'AW-123456789/AbC-D_efG-h12_34-567'

  6. The part before the slash is your Conversion ID (AW-123456789). The part after the slash is your Conversion label (AbC-D_efG-h12_34-567).

  7. Paste each part into the matching field in Cooledge and save.

Note: The Conversion ID is the same across every conversion action in your account. The Conversion label is unique to each conversion action, so pick the action you want Cooledge bookings and leads to count towards.

Google Tag Manager

If you manage your tags in Google Tag Manager instead of pasting individual IDs, Cooledge can load your container on your Cooledge booking pages and landing pages.

  1. Open Google Tag Manager and select your container.
  2. Copy the Container ID shown at the top. It looks like GTM-XXXXXXX.
  3. Paste it into the Container ID field in Cooledge and save.
  4. In your container, create a Custom Event trigger for the event name cooledge_conversion and attach it to the tags you want to fire when a booking or lead is captured. The event includes lead_type, event_id and form_id variables you can read from the data layer.

Note: This field is optional. If you only use the ID fields above, Cooledge already fires those events for you. The container is for tags you manage yourself.

Meta (Facebook and Instagram)

Cooledge needs your Pixel ID and, for the most reliable tracking, a Conversions API access token.

Pixel ID

  1. Open Meta Events Manager.
  2. In the left panel select your dataset. Meta now calls a pixel a "dataset", and your Pixel ID is shown under its name.
  3. Copy the Pixel ID (a long number) and paste it into the Pixel ID field in Cooledge.

Conversions API access token

The Conversions API lets Cooledge send conversions straight from our servers, so they still count when a browser blocks the Pixel.

  1. In Events Manager select your dataset and open the Settings tab.
  2. Scroll to Conversions API and, under Set up manually, click Generate access token.
  3. Copy the token and paste it into the Conversions API access token field in Cooledge.
  4. Click Save.

Note: Treat the access token like a password. Cooledge stores it encrypted and never shows it again. The Generate access token link only appears if you have developer access to the business.

Once server events are flowing, the Meta section shows a green Server events working line with the time of the last event. An amber line means Meta rejected the last event, and it shows the reason.

Lower funnel events

Under the Meta section you can send two extra events as a lead moves through your pipeline:

  • Send an event when a lead becomes a quote or job sends a LeadConverted event.
  • Send an event when a lead is won sends a LeadWon event.

These arrive in Meta as custom events. To optimise your campaigns to real outcomes, set them up as custom conversions in Meta Ads Manager.

Embedded widgets on your own website

If you embed a Cooledge booking or lead widget on your own site:

  • Google events fire through the Google tag on the host page, so the Google tag (or Google Tag Manager) needs to be installed on your website. If you use Google Tag Manager, add a trigger for the cooledge_conversion event. The same trigger covers your Cooledge booking pages and landing pages once your Container ID is saved in Cooledge.
  • Meta events are also sent from our servers, so they work everywhere with no extra setup.

Check that it is working

  • Google Analytics: open Reports → Realtime or Admin → DebugView, then complete a test booking or lead.
  • Google Ads: new conversions can take a few hours to appear under Goals → Conversions.
  • Meta: open your dataset in Events Manager and watch the Test events or Overview tab while you submit a test lead. The settings page also shows the time of the last server event.

Note: Individual forms can opt out of conversion tracking. If a specific booking or lead form should not fire conversions, turn off its Send conversion events toggle in the form builder. Your base analytics page views still load.
