Job profitability report: which jobs made money and why

Every job already has its own Profitability card. Now you can see all of them at once. The new Job profitability report lines up your jobs over any date range, shows which ones lost money and tells you why.

A report for every job

• Any date range. Pick This month, This quarter, This financial year, the last 30 or 90 days or a custom range. Dates follow your business's timezone.
• Completed or Created. Choose which date puts a job in the range.
• Four headline figures: Revenue, Costs, Margin and Jobs that lost money, with a chart of margin by month.
• Reasons behind the margin. Where the figures show one, chips like Labour over 5 h ($295), Materials over $410 or Invoiced less than quoted $380 show where the money went.
• Group by Month, Job category, System type or Technician. Technician figures share each job by the hours each person logged, so the totals still add up.
• Filters for margin, system type, job category, technician and estimate.
• Pick your columns. Show the ones you want and the report remembers them on that browser.
• Click a row to open the job's Purchases tab. Back returns you to the same view.

Jobs that aren't invoiced yet are listed but kept out of the totals, so an unbilled job never reads as a loss.

The account owner can export the report as a CSV for a spreadsheet or a PDF with your logo, ready to send to your accountant. Admins can see every report but can't export.

Paid by the job

Some contractors clock in on the app but bill you a fixed price. Until now their hours were costed as labour on top of their bill.

• In Settings > Manage Team > Labour cost rates, tick Paid by the job for that person.
• Their timesheet hours stop counting as labour. Their bill is the cost.
• When you save, Cooledge asks about their finished entries: Apply to past entries or Only new entries. Past labour costs only change if you choose Apply to past entries.

When a subcontractor covers all the labour and none is logged on timesheets, the job card now hides the empty Labour row, on the portal and in the app.

Reports, regrouped

Reports is now sorted into Money, Sales and Team. Job profitability is the first new report. Lead sources opens your Leads reporting and Call History is where it was. More reports are on the way.
